The new Samsung Galaxy Devices price and why is not for you || Tech Blog Pro

Let me start by saying that I loved the new members of the Galaxy family, unveiled yesterday at # Unpacked2020 in San Francisco.

The aesthetics, design, and hyper-mega-zoom of the S20 (in its different editions) and the Z Flip with its new form-factor and new functionalities at the software level, generated an emotion that I did not feel long ago when I saw a phone launch. Bravo Samsung !! Bravo!!

Felipe, who was present at the event, already gave us a first account of what he saw (you can read it here and you can see the coverage on our Twitter account) and what each of these devices offers (and more !! ).

However. After the excitement and with a slightly colder head I have realized that these devices are not for you, they are not for us. These devices have a well-defined audience: the ultra-premium market in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Korea.

Two reasons lead me to say this:

  1.  Its price

Do you remember when the scandal of epic proportions was created with the first $ 1000 phone? Well, the cheapest "S20" is worth a thousand dollars. The S20 + 1,200 and the S20 + Ultra start at $ 1,400.

For its part, the Z Flip is a $ 1,380 phone, and unlike the Galaxy Fold, we have no excuse to say that we will replace our phone, ours, and our current computer with a team that does it all in one.

I know that there are people in the country (and in the region) who can buy devices in this price range (Samsung sold all the units of the Galaxy Fold that it brought to presale in Colombia in a jiffy) but that is not you, the typical reader from Goal Today.

When these devices arrive in Colombia, taxes, tariffs, and others will take their prices above what 95% of the population can pay.

  •     If you realized, these devices are "5G ready", that is, they are compatible with the new 5G technology of which there is not a single installation in all of Latin America. Some countries in the region are aiming to have their first 5G networks in 2021 but in Colombia, I don't think we will see anything real before 2022-2023.

Buying a 5G phone to run on the networks of our operators is like seeing those rattles that Ferraris have but cannot take to the streets in Bogotá because with the first hole the car falls apart.

Now, after showing the prices of the Samsung S20, something was shown that I think can have a GIANT impact in the region: the reduced prices of the S10.

With the new prices of the S10 family, they become much more competitive, and now that they have fixed that problem with facial recognition, they are a no-brainier for an audience that wants high-end devices but at a more earthly price. Of course, we will have to see what happens to the teams that the competition launches in the coming months to understand how the market is recomposed.
